Abstract
  • We study laser emission from granular and soft matter. The goal of the project is measuring laser emission from granular and soft matter. The project is highly interdisciplinary and commits different aspects of the science of complex systems, namely, spin glass theory and granular physics, together with the most advanced results and techniques of photonics. Experiments will be carried out by using high power laser sources pumping on active powders displaying various granular phases, from slow quasi-static to rapid and turbulent-like gaseous regimes. The spin glass theory will be developed to describe the disordered interaction of electromagnetic modes. Non-equilibrium statistical mechanics applied to granular fluids will provide a general description of the granular phase diagram. Experimental results will also be supported by massively parallel computational results. (literal)
