  • In this study nanocrystalline TiO2 coatings have been grown on Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes (SWNTs) arrays. The SWNTs were synthesized in a purpose-designed chemical vapour deposition (CVD) reactor by reaction between C nanopowders and atomic H. This approach allows one to obtain well aligned and oriented bundles of SWNTs on various substrates. After nanotubes grow the arrays were subjected to the TiO2 coating process by a MO-CVD technique. The structural characterization evidences an anatase TiO2 form with grain average size of about 50nm. The coating is homogeneous and uniform along the whole length of the nanotube bundles. Moreover the architecture of the pristine nanotube arrays is maintained after the TiO2 coating process for both the orthogonal and the parallel bundles/substrate orientations. The presented approach opens a new route for the preparation of well designed TiO2 architectures and for the integration of nanotube/TiO2 systems in photovoltaic devices. (literal)
