Institute of information science and technologies "Alessandro Faedo" (ISTI)

Description

The Institute of Information Science and Technologies "Alessandro Faedo" (ISTI) was established in 2002 through the merger of the Istituto CNUCE (CNUCE-CNR) and the Istituto di Elaborazione dell'Informazione (IEI-CNR). Named in honor of Alessandro Faedo, a former Rector of the University of Pisa and President of CNR, ISTI recognizes his significant contributions to the advancement of Information Science and Technologies within the Italian academic community.
Committed to achieving scientific excellence and actively contributing to technology transfer, ISTI's domain of expertise spans Information Science, related technologies, and a diverse range of applications. The institute focuses on increasing knowledge, fostering the development and testing of new ideas, and expanding application areas.

While belonging to the DIITET Department of CNR (aimed at ICT technologies), ISTI also conducts substantial research in collaboration with other CNR Departments, e.g. the ones focusing on Human Sciences, Medicine and Physics. The field of Information Technology is marked by rapid developments and the seamless flow of information among various research communities, academia, and broader sectors of industry, business, and society. To remain vital and effective, research in this domain necessitates constant attention, swift responses to stimuli, and an integrated research community.

ISTI actively engages in collaborations with the academic world, participating in cooperative research and development programs at both national and international levels. Recognizing the significance of training in the Information Society, ISTI places great emphasis on involving doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows in research, actively participating in the doctoral programs of the University of Pisa and other partner universities.
