Objectives

The CNR Department of Engineering, ICT and Technology for Energy and Transport (DIITET) performs scientific activities in priority areas for country innovation with applications in many sectors: from energy to transport, from industrial engineering and ICT to constructions, from biomedical sector to areas such as aero-space, cultural heritage, security, the environment, agriculture and shipbuilding. The integration and the development of these multidisciplinary skills offer unique opportunities in the research landscape. In particular, it is a strategic the integration of more traditional engineering disciplines (mechanical, construction, energy, new materials and production systems) with information and communication technologies (ICT). One of the key direction to promote social and productive innovation, is in fact the 'cyber-physical convergence', i.e., the convergence between the physical and virtual world, to develop products and services based on industrial systems controlled and optimized through ICT. This is a strategic convergence in scenarios such as road safety and air transport, robotic surgery and efficiency of the public administration. DIITET - through 21 institutes spread over almost the whole country - is at the center of the cyber-physical convergence and therefore it is a strategic asset for the innovation of the country.
