International Conference "Education for Sustainable Cities"

The International Conference "Education for Sustainable Cities" is a one-day hybrid conference that will take place in Florence, Tuscany and online on the 29th of May 2025.
In the framework of the ECOSTEAM Erasmus+ project, the partnership has launched this international conference to gather educational experiences from all over the world in fostering sustainable urban development, promoting best experiences on core topics connected to interdisciplinary education with emphasis on sustainable energy, waste and water management, and urban mobility.
The conference presents a unique opportunity for stakeholders, educators, and policymakers to engage with cutting-edge research and practical applications aimed at enhancing sustainability in urban environments and promises to foster meaningful dialogues and collaborations that can lead to impactful changes in education for a sustainable behaviour and management of resources and services.
The themes of the conference will include:
- Education, experiential learning and active citizenship on urban issues and best practices related to energy, waste and water management, urban mobility, urban design;
- Innovative education (e.g. Inquiry Based Learning for STEM, Project-Based Learning, Problem-Based Learning, Integrated STEAM, ICT and mobile games etc.);
- Science and Civic Journalism experiences in school education;
- ICT and mobile game design for the sustainable use of resources.
Targeted organisations
- Secondary schools, NGOs with educators and learning facilitators
- Urban facilities, municipalities, professionals and NGOs on sustainable development
- Public or private organisations providing ICT-enhanced learning
- Social partners and policy makers in school education
- Academics and students with an interest in STEAM, pedagogical innovation, communication, environmental education, with interest in urban studies, management of water, waste,
energy and urban mobility.
Participation
The participation in the conference is free of charge.
It is possible to participate as an audience, with the possibility to interact with the speakers, or as a
speaker, by sending a contribution (extended abstract or short paper). Details for the submission
of contributions can be found below.
Registration to the conference:
Participation is free of charge. Registration to the conference is requested to be done by the 10th of May.
Short paper/extended abstract submission:
Abstract (followed by a short paper) or extended abstract must follow the instructions in the relative templates (download them from the Conference Announcement). The Conference Proceedings will be published by CNR Edizioni.
Submission of the short papers: from May 10 to May 30, 2025
