Abstract
Cr4FUN aims at designing, synthetizing and characterizing homogeneous and heterogeneous Cr-based catalysts for addressing two key targets in the New Plastic Economy: a) the production of aliphatic polymers with high performance and increased durability (cyclic olefin copolymers, COCs), and b) the development of polymers from renewable resources and biodegradable (polycarbonates from coupling of CO2 and epoxides). The project is characterized by a high level of interdisciplinarity. We plan to combine state-of-the-art synthesis methods, in-situ and operando characterization of the Cr active sites, as well as an advanced characterization of the polymers properties. This strategy will permit the identification of the crucial properties (steric and electronic) influencing the reactivity of the Cr active sites, ultimately leading to the design and development of more selective and active catalysts.
The team integrates excellent researchers carrying complementary expertise, ranging from synthesis of molecular complexes (UdR-CNR), catalysts characterization by means of a multi-technique approach (UdR-UniTO), synthesis of polymers and their characterization in terms of molecular structure,
