DIYPES - Do It Yourself! A participative approach to increase participation and engagement of high school students in Physical Education and Sport classes

DIYPES is a two-year Erasmus Plus project that aims at promoting physical activity at high school level engaging the students in the development of their physical education and sport (PES) classes by means of participatory methodologies.
The preliminary phase of the project consists of an assessment of the National Curriculum related to PES for high-school students  in the 5 European countries involved - Albania, Italia, Malta, Romania, Slovakia - by means of document analysis and interviews to PES teachers and other stakeholders, including policy makers. In the following phase a 3-month intervention focused on participatory approach to PES classes, in 3 different territorial contexts per country, will be tested in terms of feasibility and effectiveness.
Based on the project results, good practices related to a participatory approach in the design of PES classes to be spread at a European level will be identified.
In Italy the project is conducted by the IRPPS research group Social Studies of Science, Education, Communication (COMESE).
