The integration processes of immigrant population in the receiving society

In the last years, the Institute research activities' on topic of spatial mobility focuses on analysis and comparison of immigrants integration processes in host societies. In particular, the investigation on those processes aims to link different approaches and paradigms in common theoretical framework. This approach wants to stress and valuing ties, relationships, similarities and dissimilarities between the different types of migration. The elaboration of this comprehensive approach aims to answer the needs of translating the skills as working tools for social workers and others subjects that work on political and administrative aspects of this topic.
Within this theoretical and methodological framework, various researches are carried out that investigate the social and political impact of immigrants on receiving countries. Among these, it must quote the yearly investigation on immigrant population in Rome. In 2006 and 2007 the outcomes of those researches are disseminated in two books.
This approach is able to stress Migration research at IRPPS move on this direction. Furthermore, the Italian case in the appropriate theoretical context, within the framework of European migrations and of the European migration system. As regard, it needs to quote the research project Mediterranean and Eastern European countries as new immigration destination in the European Union" (IDEA) of sixth Framework. The participation at this investigation has implied the analysis of Italian case in new migratory space designed by new migration flows in Eastern and Central Europe. Finally, size and characteristics of foreign immigration in Italy have been analysed as well as Italian emigration abroad.
