Descrizione
L'Istituto di Ricerca per la Tecnologia delle Membrane (ITM) è una struttura creata dal Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) per lo sviluppo, a livello nazionale ed internazionale, della scienza e della tecnologie delle membrane.
L'ITM ha la sua Sede c/o l'Università della Calabria (Rende CS) ed una unità localizzata c/o l'Università di Padova.
L'Istituto per la Tecnologia delle Membrane ha oggi 33 unità di personale a tempo indeterminato e circa 60 di personale temporaneo tra visiting professors, ricercatori associati, assegnisti di ricerca, CoCoCo, allievi di dottorato, borsisti, borsisti post-dottorato, borsisti di "alta formazione", anche provenienti da altre Strutture accademiche e/o di ricerca nazionali e straniere.
L'attività dell'Istituto è focalizzata sulla ricerca e lo sviluppo della scienza e tecnologia delle membrane. Le principali attività riguardano: membrane catalitiche e reattori catalitici a membrana; separazioni gassose a membrana, operazioni integrate a membrana; distillazione a membrana, contattori a membrana, emulsificatori a membrana, cristallizzazione a membrana, etc.; preparazione e caratterizzazione di membrane polimeriche, ceramiche e metalliche sia dense sia porose; studio dei fenomeni di trasporto in membrane organiche, inorganiche, a matrice mista, bioidride; membrane in biotecnologia; organi bioartificiali a membrana, membrane in ingegneria tissutale e medicina rigenerativa;
L'approccio multidisciplinare è basato sul background in ingegneria chimica ed ingegneria di processo; chimica organica e chimica fisica; scienze biologiche; scienze alimentari; scienze dei materiali.
L'ITM, attraverso i risultati ottenuti dai suoi ricercatori, svolge oggi un ruolo significativo a livello nazionale ed internazionale nello sviluppo delle ricerche in tutti i settori della scienza e della tecnologia delle membrane, dagli aspetti più fondamentali a quelli applicativi ed industriali.
Per il raggiungimento dei propri fini statutari, ovvero la ricerca e sviluppo delle membrane e dei relativi processi, l'ITM-CNR partecipa o ha partecipato, sia con il ruolo di coordinatore che con quello di partner, a numerosi progetti di ricerca nazionali ed internazionali.
